Can't Gain Weight? A Pakistani Guide That Actually Works
"Tum khate hi nahi ho" — the most annoying sentence in Pakistan if you're naturally thin. Here's the thing nobody tells you: most "hard gainers" don't eat nearly as much as they think. Track everything for three days and the mystery usually solves itself.
The only rule: surplus, every day
Weight gain has exactly one mechanism — eating more than you burn, consistently. Not Monday-to-Wednesday. Every day, for weeks. A healthy pace is 0.25–0.5 kg per week. If the scale hasn't moved in a month, you're not in a surplus, whatever it feels like.
Eat like it's your job: the desi calorie arsenal
- Dry fruits daily — almonds, walnuts, dates, kishmish. A fistful is 150–200 calories that takes two minutes to eat.
- Milk, milk, milk — 2–3 big glasses a day. Add a banana and peanut butter and one glass becomes a 500-calorie shake.
- Eggs without fear — 3–4 a day. The cholesterol panic is outdated for most healthy people.
- Rice and potatoes — energy-dense and cheap. Generous portions, not daawat-level, daily.
- Protein with it — chicken, keema, fish, daal. Otherwise you're just gaining a belly, not a build.
Structure beats appetite
Waiting to "feel hungry" is why you're still thin — your appetite is the problem, not the solution. Run on schedule instead: 3 big meals + 3 snacks, timed. 10am shake, 4pm dry fruits, 9pm milk — whether you feel like it or not. Appetite follows routine within two weeks.
The traps
Dirty bulking. Burgers, shawarmas and mithai will put weight on you — the wrong kind, in the wrong place, with your cholesterol as collateral. Six months later you're "bulky" the way a water balloon is bulky.
Protein-free gaining. Calories without protein and some resistance work (even push-ups at home) build fat, not shape. You want to look strong, not just bigger.
The 3-day burst. Eating like a king Friday-to-Sunday then forgetting till Thursday nets you nothing. Consistency is the entire game.

0.25–0.5 kg a week. Faster than that and you're mostly gaining fat.
Dry fruits, milk, bananas, eggs, rice, potatoes, peanut butter — frequent, protein-backed meals.
It works at making you fatter and unhealthier. There's a difference between weight and good weight.
